Chewy, flavoured nougat wrapped in a rich, chocolaty coating have made Charleston Chew an American favourite since its launch by the Fox-Cross Candy Company in 1922.
Named after the Charleston, a popular early-20th-century dance, the bars are available in strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla flavours. They're frequently enjoyed frozen, offering the classic “Charleston Chew crack” as folks love to break them into small pieces before eating. Charleston Chew joined the Tootsie family in 1993.

Did you know? - In 1935 the Tootsie company was struggling to pay the bills and the company was in big trouble. Fearing the loss of their biggest customer, the company that made the packaging for Tootsie bars bought the entire company. After a few tweaks to the recipe, the Tootsie brand quickly resumed its role in the candy world.
In 1896 Tootsie was founded by an Austrian immigrant to the United States. After opening his candy store in New York City he decided to embark upon a new creation of his, a chocolate bar that could withstand the test of heat... the Tootsie bar! This chocolate-coated vanilla-flavoured candy bar was massively popular among those serving in the military and became commonplace in ration packs.
